Conservation Society of Pohnpei, Preserving Our Natural Heritage for a Sustainable Future
Programs

Educational Awareness Program
CSP’s Environmental Awareness Program works to educate all Pohnpei residents about the importance of their surrounding environment and encourages their participation in conservation activities. Though CSP works with all ages, a special focus is on Pohnpei’s youth, as they are the future of the island. The Society’s primary programs are Youth-to-Youth in Environmental Awareness and Education, The Green Road Show, The Serehd (CSP’s newsletter) and other public awareness activities.

Marine Program
The CSP marine program combines elements of traditional marine resource management with modern science to empower local communities to protect Pohnpei’s marine biodiversity. Currently, the program’s main focuses are MPA Establishment and Management, Spawning and Aggregation Sites (SPAGS), fish, coral, and sediment monitoring, and Income Generating Activities for MPA Communities.

Terrestrial Program
The Conservation Society of Pohnpei (CSP) and The Pohnpei State Government have embarked on a conservation partnership to protect Pohnpei’s pristine upland forest (Pohnpei Watershed Forest Reserve). This conservation partnership has employed community based/led resource management to build the capacity of local villagers to manage their own resources with assistance from the local and state government agencies. The project currently engages four main strategies, which include the Grow-Low Sakau (kava) Campaign, Watershed Forest Reserve (WFR) Survey/Demarcation, Watershed Forest Monitoring and Income Generating Activities/Alternative Income Sources.

Other Activities
The Society also engages in other outreach activites to further conservation in Pohnpei and throughout Micronesia.
